A Bit About Me...

My name is Jonah and I am the face behind Shade of Rose Counselling & Psychotherapy. I was inspired to pursue a career in mental health support by my own life-changing connections with professionals across my life and my lifelong interest in emotions, experiences and how we as humans engage (or don't engage) with them. As someone searching for a counsellor, I hope it is useful for you to know that I have known hardship, distress, and hopelessness. However, I have also known recovery, healing, and growth. I have had extensive personal therapy over the years: many different kinds with different people and as a result I know that counselling can work one way or another. I know this beyond my training and the research; I know it through personal lived experience, and that is why I hope to become part of that journey for you.

Why 'Shades of Rose'?

The phrase 'Shades of Rose' was a title I came up with for a music project in 2021. In that context it was referring to metaphorical rose-tinted glasses, as that project was representative of a time in my life where I finally had the freedom to choose to see the world, my life, and my experiences in a different light after a long time of feeling imprisoned within my feelings and circumstances. Five years later when considering what to call my counselling practice, I felt that name also perfectly represented how I saw counselling and therapy as an experience: Every session being a choice made to see your life differently, cultivate new ways of relating to others and ourselves, and to pursue a shift in perspective on our own terms.
